Although many things have been cancelled this summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Danville’s Family YMCA is a place where both kids and adults can have some fun. Linus VanderWyst, Executive Director of the Danville Family ‘Y’, says safety precautions are being taken since the facility re-opened…
{‘’We’ve been able to – as staff – to do everything we can keeping the facility clean. We are able to reopen now with regular hours – which have been nice. We were – during the shutdown – able to renovate both of our adult locker rooms. So the showers have been totally re-done, thanks to some local foundations,’’ said VanderWyst.}
VanderWyst says the Family ‘Y’ is ready to help area families….
{‘’We’ll keep plugging away. Day Camp was able to start three weeks ago. Obviously the attendance with a lot of parents not working right now – has been down compared to past years,’’ said VanderWyst. ‘’We’re just moving forward – seeing what District 118 will be doing, that we can try to help them in the off-hours with the child care the best we can, to help out those working parents.’’}
VanderWyst adds the Danville Family YMCA offers a lot….
{‘’You know you’ve got the physical facilities – the gym, the Wellness Center with all the strength training and cardio-vascular equipment in. A beautiful six-lane, 25 yard pool – which is really a gem for the community. But all the aerobics classes are free with the membership. We have after-school programming, swimming lessons, — right now the day camp going on in the summertime, and the youth sport leagues coming up this fall and winter,’’ added VanderWyst.}
