Danville District 118 is planning an A and B reopening schedule this fall at its school buildings, while Georgetown-Ridge Farm is planning online-only classes for the first semester of the school year.
The reopening schedule across Vermilion County schools varies with the school year in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some smaller Vermilion County schools are having in-person classes all five days of the week. Armstrong Township High School plans to have all students in the classroom until 2 p.m. Potomac Grade School will also have classes in-person. In Danville, Schlarman Academy plans to be open all five days of the week. Superintendent Mark Janesky says even though Schlarman has smaller class sizes, students will still be spread apart.
“We’re physically distancing students from each other, even in the classroom,” Janesky explained. “We’ve spread everything out. It’s going to look like a normal classroom, only it’s going to be spread out throughout the entire room. Kids won’t be in the middle of the room, they’ll be all over the room, and we’ll have a lot of things that will be moved within the room.”
All three Salt Fork schools will be open from 8:05 until 2:15 each day, five days a week. The district’s reopening plan states that a decision will be made in September whether or not to continue with the early dismissal schedule, which it says is being done because some buildings aren’t air conditioned.
Westville schools are also planning in-person classes five days a week, with shortened school days.
