The start of early voting is still a month away, but local election officials say they have already received hundreds of requests for ballots to vote by mail. Sandy Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, says about 12-hundred requests for ballots by mail have already been sent to her office. (She is shown in photo above.) And Chief Deputy County Clerk Lindsey Light says over 19-hundred voters have already sent in applications to that office to vote by mail.
Light is encouraging those who have not yet registered to vote to do it soon….
{”You can register to vote all the way up through the middle of October – online through the end of October. However, I encourage you to check and just make sure your voter-registration is current. And make sure you are registered to vote just as soon as you can,” said Light. ”Just this morning we had 150 new registrations on our website. So, if you need to register to vote, want to check on your voter registration, I encourage everybody to go to www.ova.elections.il.gov.”
Both Light and Delhaye say they believe that voting by mail is safe.

County Clerk Cathy Jenkin’s office earlier mailed notifications to over 17-thousand registered voters living outside Danville – but within Vermilion County – telling them about their right to request a ballot by mail. The Danville Election Commission sent out 8,200 of the notices recently.
