The first phase of the proposed new casino in Danville is set to go before the city’s planning and zoning commission on Thursday, September 3rd.
The developer, Danville Development, LLC, is seeking to have the warehouse property at 204 Eastgate Drive rezoned from industrial to general business use.
A proposal provided by the developer says it intends to keep approximately 60,000 square feet of the existing warehouse space to be remodeled into the first phase of the casino, while the remaining 50,000 square feet will be demolished. The property is slated to contain 650 parking spaces.
The casino site is 8.5 acres, and the proposal says the casino will be open 24 hours a day. Construction is estimated to take nine months once the Illinois Gaming Board approves the casino license and financing is completed.
The Eastgate site is only the first phase, and the developers say a new casino will be built closer to Interstate 74 in later phases. Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. told Vermilion County First News that the Eastgate site would still be used by the company as office space, training areas, hospitality, storage and to test for new games.
