Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Officers are probing two incidents at the Iroquois County Jail in Watseka. One involves the death of an inmate, and the other resulted with an inmate being hospitalized in critical condition.
State Police announced Wednesday evening preliminary information indicating the first inmate was found unresponsive by Iroquois County Sheriff’s Deputies at the jail Tuesday evening (August 25th, 2020) shortly after 7:00 p.m. The inmate was transported to an area hospital where he remained in critical condition (Wednesday evening).
State Police say a second inmate was found unresponsive by Iroquois County Sheriff’s Deputies at about 11:15 a.m. today (Wednesday, August 26, 2020). He was later pronounced dead. An autopsy has not been scheduled yet. Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Officers from Zone 3 were requested by the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
Illinois State Police say both of the cases remain under investigation, and no further information is being released at this time.
