Danville city council members approved the city’s participation in a program that reimburses costs associated with the coronavirus.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says the city is eligible to receive up to $1.3 million through the Coronavirus Urgent Remediation Emergency fund organized by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Up to $200,000 of the money can be spent on payroll reimbursement for employees who spent 50 percent or more of their paycheck on COVID-related issues. Williams also said the city’s purchase of laptop computers and iPads for alderman can be reimbursed through the relief fund, as well as Personal Protective Equipment.
Council members also accepted a $363,000 grant from a federal coronavirus aid fund to purchase self contained breathing apparatuses for firefighters.
