One large event impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic that most people don’t think about is job fairs. With several employers hiring in Danville, it becomes a challenge.
AutoZone’s distribution center on Lynch Road came up with a solution Wednesday, hosting a day-long drive-through job fair and application process, where prospective employers could meet with human resources, answer questions and even take a tour of the building.
John Jansky is the operations manager of the AutoZone site.
“Of course, with COVID regulations, we take temperatures, we’re doing social distancing, we’re interviewing people in their cars, but also as people pass through the interviewing process they’re able to take a tour of the building, and then after the tour, fill out an application online here at the building,” Jansky said. “They’re also able to do interviews with our H.R. team and on-site, pre-employment drug testing as well. It’s all trying to streamline the hiring process.”
Jansky says AutoZone is looking to hire forklift operators and employees at other positions as well. He says the plant is adding about 100 people to its workforce in both full-time and part-time positions.
As of last night, Jansky said more than 200 potential employees turned out for the job fair Wednesday, which lasted from mid-morning through the evening.
