Eight more Vermilion County residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and the Vermilion County Health Department says none of them are related to anyone else who has tested positive recently.
Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says the new cases consist of one person in their 80’s, two people in their 40’s, one person in their 30’s, one person in their 20’s and three teenagers.
Currently, Vermilion County has 47 active cases, with one person hospitalized and the rest in isolation. 344 cases have been reported overall.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says 2,128 new cases have been reported statewide along with 27 more deaths, including a man in his 70’s from Ford County. That brings the state’s totals to 238,643 cases and 8,091 deaths.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate has crept up two tenths of a percent to 4.5 percent.
Governor J.B. Pritzker said Wednesday afternoon that most areas of the state are seeing a rise in cases. He says Illinoisans should wear a face mask.
Only two regions in the state saw decreased case rates, Danville’s region six and the region including western Illinois.
