The unemployment rate in Danville fell slightly from last month, continuing a downward trend since the spike at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says Danvilleās standalone unemployment rate now stands at 11.9 percent, which is down six-tenths of a percent from July.
Meanwhile, in the Danville area, the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 9.3 percent from 9.9 percent in July. The last time the August rate was equal to or higher was in 2013 when it was 11.2 percent.
Non-farm employment decreased by -1,200 compared to last August.
The manufacturing (-300), professional-business services (-200), leisure-hospitality (-200), and government (-200) sectors recorded the largest employment declines compared to one year ago. The retail trade (+100) sector reported payroll gains.
