Central Illinois is inching closer to having indoor dining and large gatherings banned due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.
Data from the Illinois Department of Public Health shows Region 6–which includes Champaign-Urbana, Danville, Decatur and Effingham–has a positivity rate of 7.4 percent, which is a 0.3 percent increase from the day before. Increased restrictions will be imposed if the region’s positivity rate reaches eight percent for three consecutive days.
Vermilion County’s positivity rate is 7.7 percent. Crawford County (Robinson) is at 17.5 percent positivity, while Fayette County (Vandalia) has a 15.5 percent positivity rate.
IDPH recently excluded Champaign County from its Region 6 testing data due to the high volume of tests performed each day at the University of Illinois, but the county will still have restrictions imposed along with the rest of the region if it happens.
Indoor dining would be banned under increased restrictions, and public gatherings would be limited to 25 percent capacity or 25 people for smaller gatherings.
