The Illinois Department of Public Health has released a set of guidelines for people to follow during Halloween.
IDPH says trick-or-treating can still happen, but it is advising that candy be placed on a table or for people handing out candy to wear proper face coverings. The department also says that a costume is not an adequate substitute for a face mask.
Adult gatherings are limited to 50 percent of room capacity or 50 people.
Indoor haunted houses will not be allowed this year. Governor J.B. Pritzker said in a news conference yesterday that most indoor haunted houses do not have much open space to allow distancing. However, outdoor haunted displays are still permitted.
IDPH also says people can pick pumpkins at orchards and take hayrack rides, but the rides should not exceed 50 percent capacity.
