The suspect in an officer-involved shooting that occurred last Sunday near Montezuma is in custody.
23-year-old Omaree Shay Roby of Milwaukee is charged with aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm and resisting law enforcement–all felonies.
Roby was arrested upon his release from an Indianapolis hospital and is being held in the Vermillion (Indiana) County Jail on $150,000 bond.
He was shot by police officers after he fired at them on Sunday, September 27th after fleeing from officers and striking a bullet at a squad car during an earlier chase that began in Terre Haute.
Roby allegedly stole a vehicle in Evansville at gunpoint and then traveled north on U.S. 41 to Terre Haute, where a Vigo County deputy observed him at at 4:22 a.m. driving at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued Roby along State Route 63, reaching speeds up to 120 miles per hour.
