A drive-through job fair hosted by Danville Area Community College Wednesday spotlighted hundreds of jobs that are available in our area. Tom Hossfeld, Human Relations Chief at the VA Illiana Health Care System, outlined some of the jobs currently available there…
{”We have about 200 to 300 opportunities. Anyone from physicians to food service workers. We have openings in medical support assistance – pretty much you name it, we have opportunities. We’re a self-sustaining hospital so everybody that does work there supports the hospital,” said Hossfeld. ”And the overall goal really, is to support the veterans.”
Hossfeld added that for some who qualify, the Veterans Administration has streamlined the hiring process….
{”We’re in a pretty unique situation right now, where if we have an opening – and we have a need and you’re ready to work – we can onboard you in three days from the day that we offer you the job,” said Hossfeld. ”So, if someone needs to work and we have an opening, we can get them from the day of interview to working in three days.”}
Sarah Koester, Human Resources Business Partner at Sygma, says that company is also looking for a lot of help….
{”I need line haul drivers. I need delivery drivers, warehouse selectors, forklift experience. I’m looking for a transportation supervisor. (and) I’m looking for a fleet maintenance manager,” said Koester.}

{”We were one of the companies that – unfortunately – during COVID, a lot of companies were hurting. And we did a very quick bounce back because we’re in the food industry.”}

The VA and Sygma were just two of the participants in the Danville Area Community College drive-thru jobs fair Wednesday. Representatives from the College and Vermilion County Works were also on hand providing information for job-seekers.
VA Illiana Health Care System will be hosting another job fair next Wednesday, October 14th in an effort to recruit nurses. It will take place near the pavilion on the VA grounds between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (The rain date for that event is October 21, 2020.)
