The City of Danville’s Public Works Committee advanced a proposal to take over portions of the Danville Sanitary District.
Under an intergovernmental agreement, the city’s public works department would operate all of the sanitary district’s lines inside city limits, while the district itself would continue to operate trunk lines in the city.
City Engineer Sam Cole said the agreement would lead to better maintenance under one system since currently the two entities are serving the exact same people.
The committee also approved a two-month extension of the city’s franchise cable television agreement with Comcast through January 2021.
Corporation Counsel Chuck Mockbee says the current agreement expires next month, and an extenson will allow the city to continue negotiating with Comcast.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says he thinks Comcast makes a lot of money off the city without paying enough, and he wants them to pay more in terms of a franchise fee.
