High school basketball and wrestling fans should know by the middle of next week if those sports will continue this winter.
The IHSA’s board of directors says they will meet for a special board meeting on Wednesday, October 28th to announce details about winter sports.
Illinois joined a handful of states across the country in delaying some of its high school sports seasons in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
High school football is tentatively set to resume in March 2021, along with boys’ soccer and volleyball. The traditional spring sports (baseball, softball and track) will begin in May and last through June.
Even if the winter sports seasons continue as planned, those sports will not look the same. Danville High School Athletic Director Mark Bacys said during a school board meeting two weeks ago that face masks could be mandatory for everyone, including players, during basketball games. He also said it would be difficult for wrestling to happen due to high contact between participants.
