Danville’s Fischer Theatre is hosting a number of special events this month, despite the on-going pandemic. Ashton Greer is the Operations Director at the Fischer….
{You know, I think considering the situation with the pandemic I think that we’re doing really well. We have received great support from our community, (and) from the many people who have become ‘Friends of the Fischer’. Our events seem to be going pretty well – all things considered. We sold-out four events last weekend. We can only sell 50 tickets per event, so it’s not too hard to sellout. But it has been encouraging to see how people are supporting us – even in such a hard time,’’ said Greer during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.

Events this month include some scary movies since Halloween is coming, a blues band and ‘Poe and Company – Tales of the Macabre’. It will feature local performing artists reading selections from Edgar Allan Poe and others in the darkened theater.
And as supporters of the Fischer look ahead, Executive Director Jason Rome says there is more work needed on the building…
{‘’We want to restore dressing room space and green rooms. That’s a must for us in order to draw-in the sizes of groups that could perform here – as well as just the kinds of groups. If we want to get traveling off-Broadway tours and things like that – like a ‘Hamilton’ or ‘Phantom of the Opera’ – those things are all do-able, so long as we can provide the proper dressing room and green room space,’’ said Rome. ‘’And we’ve got the stage and we’ve got the theater now for it.’’}

The City of Danville is improving Harrison Street next door to the Fischer and also has plans to add more nearby parking.
