OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center could soon have a separate unit to treat COVID-19 patients if the number of hospitalizations rises.
Brad Solberg, the new interim president at Sacred Heart, told WDAN’s Linda Bolton Friday morning that the hospital’s leadership is considering the possibility of opening up a COVID unit with negative air flow through the rooms.
He says OSF staff is meeting consistently to discuss the latest information and what needs to be done.
Solberg says the measures are precautionary and that OSF Sacred Heart is not overrun with COVID-19 patients yet. He says many people in the medical field have been predicting the current wave of the virus for several weeks. He also says wearing face masks and practicing social distancing will help to flatten the curve of the current outbreak.
