Some Vermilion County businesses defying COVID-19 restrictions which were implemented Monday are taking a risk. But County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole says his department is still ‘’reviewing options about what can be done about it. This came upon us quickly, so we’re still reviewing it,’’ he added.
Some businesses have decided to continue their indoor bar and restaurant services even though they are banned under mitigation measures for COVID 19 in Illinois Region Six.
Toole notes the state could fine those businesses, but adds an even larger threat would be if the state went after the gaming or liquor license for the businesses. ‘’Getting them back is not a guarantee,’’ warned Toole. ‘’If the state were to go after either of those licenses – that would be huge,’’ added Toole during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
The County Health Department Administrator also noted there are other ways citizens can support the local businesses without going inside – such as using their carryout or delivery services during the pandemic.
The County Health Department oversees bars which are located in unincorporated areas of Vermilion County. In Danville, the mayor serves as the city’s liquor control commissioner.
There are numerous bars and restaurants in Danville and Vermilion County which have continued their inside services. Owners of some of them have posted information noting they have taken extra precautions to keep their customers and employees safe.
