Danville Area Community College has received new medical imaging equipment that will enhance training programs at the college.
The Vermilion Healthcare Foundation donated funds for a Philips X5-1 Transducer that will be used in the Echocardiography program at DACC. Echocardiography uses ultrasound technology to investigate the action of the heart, such as heart rhythm and how efficiently the chambers and valves are pumping blood through the heart.
“We are so thankful to the Vermilion Healthcare Foundation for all they are doing and have done to support healthcare and health career education in this community,” stated DACC Foundation Executive Director Tonya Hill.
The X5-1 Transducer will enhance the capability of the Ultrasound system currently being used by DACC students. The Transducer provides additional means for obtaining robust and reproducible measurement techniques for cardiac evaluations. This X5-1 Transducer will prepare graduates to enter the field with hands-on experience utilizing the advance technology of three-dimensional, real-time echocardiography.
DACC’s Digital Medical Imaging program consists of the Radiologic Technology Associate degree program and the Sonography (Sono) and Echocardiography (Echo) advanced certificates. Students accepted into the advanced Sono program must have completed a two-year degree and hold current licensure in the radiologic sciences or nursing or other health profession, or hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in any field. To be accepted into the Echo program, prospective students should be a registered diagnostic medical sonographer, registered radiologic technologist with cardiovascular experience, or registered nurse with cardiovascular experience.
