Republican incumbents on the ballot in Vermilion County secured victories in Tuesday night’s general election.
Jacqueline Lacy secured her second term as Vermilion County State’s Attorney, winning the election over former assistant state’s attorney Sandra Lawlyes with 65 percent of the vote, 20,236 to 10,758.
Melissa “Missy” Quick secured her first four-year elected term as Vermilion County Circuit Clerk after being appointed to the job in June following Denny Gardner’s retirement. The 28-year employee of the office secured 70 percent of the vote over Democrat Gwen Meeks, 21,585 to 9,397.
Republicans also gained an additional seat on the Vermilion County Board, as Jerry Hawker won a narrow 79-vote victory over Democrat Greg Thatcher in District 7, which includes parts of Danville, Tilton and Vermilion Heights. District 4 incumbents Marla Mackiewicz and Mitch Weaver were reelected to their posts with 37 percent and 34 percent in a four-way election over Democrats Carl Lee Johnson and Germaine Light.
Both of Danville’s representatives in the Illinois General Assembly won their reelection bids. Democratic State Senator Scott Bennett captured 63 percent of the vote over Republican A.J. Ruggieri, winning comfortably in Champaign County but losing by just 2,000 votes in Vermilion County. Republican State Representative Mike Marron won with 59 percent of the vote in a rematch against Democrat Cindy Cunningham.
Voters in Georgetown voted down a proposal to make it a home-rule municipality. The vote failed, 744 votes to 468.
Mary Miller cruised to victory in the race for the 15th Congressional District over Erika Weaver.
