Despite warnings from Governor J.B. Pritzker last week about rising case counts across the state, Illinois’ COVID-19 cases continue to set new records.
On Saturday, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 12,438 new cases around the state, which was a 20 percent jump from the day before. The state currently has a seven-day positivity rate of 10.6 percent, and Region 6 has a seven-day positivity rate of 10.8 percent.
IDPH reported three deaths over the weekend among Vermilion County residents from the virus. Those were one man in his 80’s, one man in his 70’s and one man in his 60’s.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says 59 new cases were reported over the weekend. consisting of:
- One person in their 90’s
- Two people in their 80’s
- Two people in their 70’s
- Four people in their 60’s
- 11 people in their 50’s
- Six people in their 40’s
- Nine people in their 30’s
- Seven people in their 20’s
- Five teenagers
- Two grade-school-aged children
- Two preschoolers
- One toddler
- One infant.
Currently, Vermilion County has 231 active cases and 21 people hospitalized with the virus. Overall, Vermilion County has had 1,913 cases.
