A Danville man with a lengthy criminal history faces three to 14 years in prison after being convicted of illegally possessing a weapon.
A jury on Friday found 35-year-old Anthony Powell guilty of illegally possessing weapons by a felon on parole after an incident at Fair Oaks in March.
Danville police say Powell discarded a handgun and ran from police on March 28th. At the time, Powell was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections after previously being convicted of several felonies in his lifetime.
Powell is set to be sentenced on December 30th. He is not eligible for probation and must serve at least 50 percent of his sentence.
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy notes that her office will continue to aggressively prosecute weapons offenses, especially those committed by repeat offenders.
