Hundreds of Danville residents who have needed assistance paying their water bills during the pandemic have received financial aid from Aqua Illinois, and the company is encouraging more people in need to reach out to see if they can help.
Andy Price, Aqua’s manager for the Danville area, says the company has provided $110,000 combined for 425 customers in Danville alone since July through its Aqua Aid program. He says statewide, that number is about $380,000.
Price says Aqua Aid has been around for a couple of years and recently expanded to help more people who are dealing with financial setbacks because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also encouraging more customers who might need some help paying their bills to reach out to the company to see if some money is available.
“Many times, you’ve got to take the initiative to call in,” Price says. “It doesn’t take long and is very simple. I just want to encourage folks who are struggling to get people to reach out to us.”
Price says the Aqua Aid program is funded by donations from customers. He says customers can receive credits to their bills, and also an extended payment schedule.
