Yesterday (November 17th), the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida charged Lil Wayne with a federal weapons charge. According to TMZ, the rapper has been charged with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition of a convicted felon. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
The charges stem from Wayne's flight to Miami on December 23, 3019. Federal agents searched the rapper's private plane at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport and discovered the gun.
According to the Miami Herald, as a convicted felon, Wayne is not supposed to be in possession of guns. At the time of the search, the rapper admitted to owning the gold-plated pistol. In addition to the gun, bullets, suspected cocaine, ecstacy, heroin, cough syrup and over $25,000 in cash were found.
At the time, Wayne's attorney said that his client was “cleared” to leave.
Wayne is scheduled to appear in federal court in Miami on Dec. 11th.
