A local realtor and volunteer at the Danville area United Way has been named as the interim president of the organization.
Mary Ellen Surprenant succeeds Sherri Askren, who had led the United Way since July 2016.
“It is truly an honor to be named to this position and I look forward to jumping in with both feet to ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents,” she says. “One of my mottos has always been ‘Happy to Help,’ so when the board reached out
to see if I would be interested in stepping into this role, I knew it was something that would be a great fit for both myself and the United Way.”
Surprenant co-owns Re/Max Ultimate and has been involved with the United Way for the past two years. She also serves as president of the Noon Kiwanis and is a member of the Sunrise Rotary. She has been a volunteer at the Danville V.A., Balloons Over Vermilion and CRIS Healthy Aging Center. She has also been named as part of Central Illinois Business’s 40 Under 40.
