Danville’s quest for a new casino on Eastgate Drive is moving along.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said during Tuesday night’s city council meeting that he has received a proposed application from the casino developers. He says the next step is to have it submitted to the Illinois Gaming Board.
The proposed casino is to be located at 204 Eastgate Drive. The initial casino space would consist of a 17,000-square-foot gaming floor with 500 slot machines and 10 gaming tables. It would also have a food court and a steakhouse. The casino would be expanded in two further phases after it initially opens.
Once the Illinois Gaming Board receives the application, it could take a while before a casino license would be issued. The gaming board recently announced it is delaying any action on gaming licenses for about six months due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. They say Danville’s application would be considered after they review other requests for proposed casinos from around the state.
The proposed casino would create 600 construction jobs and bring 600 permanent jobs to the area after it opens.
