Phase two of a demolition project at the Fair Oaks public housing project on East Fairchild Street will be starting soon.
Jaclyn Vinson, Executive Director of the Danville Housing Authority, says the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently gave the housing authority the approval to demolish 13 buildings at Fair Oaks and leave the land vacant due to a lack of amenities.
Vinson says the buildings slated for demolition consist of 92 units. The housing authority is working with families on relocation plans. She says families can either live in another public housing area of Danville or receive a housing voucher.
Pre-relocation counseling services have begun and the relocation process is expected to last approximately 120 days, before demolition can begin.
Fair Oaks was built in 1941. Part one of demolitions was completed last year.
