Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says he has heard from at least one person who has expressed interest in running for the Ward 2 seat being vacated by alderman Dan Duncheon.
Duncheon is not running in the April 6th election, and no one filed petitions with the Danville Election Commission before Monday’s deadline.
Anyone who is interested in being a write-in candidate on next year’s ballot can file their petitions up until December 24th.
Williams told members of the city’s public services committee on Tuesday night that if no one ends up running for the seat, then he would appoint someone to the position. That person could then run in 2023 for a two-year term.
Ward 2 is made up of the southern part of Danville, including the downtown area, Rabbittown, Vermilion Heights and Danville Stadium.
