The unemployment rate locally fell significantly in the month of October, continuing a rapid recovery rate since the spike during March.
Data from the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows Danville has an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent, down three and a half percent from September and only up two percentage points from this time last year.
The Danville area saw a 2.8 percent drop in the unemployment rate during October, falling to the current rate of 5.6 percent. The new rate is less than a percentage point higher than where the Danville area was a year ago, before the pandemic hit.
The statewide unemployment rate for October was 6.8 percent.
