The local Salvation Army in Danville is in need of donations before the new year begins.
Major Jason Pollom, the executive director of the Danville Salvation Army, says donations are currently down about $2,800 compared to this point last year. He says the organization still needs to raise about $15,000 to meet its year-end goal through its Red Kettle Campaign.
Pollom says the Salvation Army is facing a “perfect storm” this year as it deals with a massive uptick in demand for its services while at the same time dealing with a loss in donations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He says the organization will likely lose about 50 percent of the money it normally takes in through the Red Kettles because many stores have closed and more people do not carry cash with them.
People in the Danville area can still donate to the Salvation Army without heading to the store. They can do so online at RescueChristmas.org, through apps such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, or they can send a check or cash to the local Salvation Army, 855 E. Fairchild St., Danville, IL, 61832.
Donations will allow the Salvation Army to provide life-changing social services and other programs throughout the year. In Danville, the local Salvation Army provides a wide array of social services, including emergency financial assistance, veterans assistance programs, food and nutrition programs, family services and shelter, and Christmas assistance.
