Riders who regularly use the Danville Mass Transit service will have to pay fares to use the buses again on Monday.
DMT Director Lisa Beith says it stopped collecting fares in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to reduce interactions between bus drivers and those who ride the buses.
Beith says DMT has put additional safety measures into place, such as disinfecting buses between shifts and at the end of the service day. Barriers have been installed between drivers and customers to further limit exposure and she says DMT has a mandatory mask requirement onboard the buses. All fare collection is completely touchless.
Anyone who uses the ADA-accessible service through CRIS Rural Mass Transit will not have to pay a fee for now.
“We are working on a solution to provide touchless fare collection for our ADA riders, but until that time fares will continue to be waived onboard those buses,” Beith says.
The regular fare for a Danville Mass Transit rider is $1 per ride. Daily passes are available for $2.50, weekly passes for $10 and a monthly pass for $36. More information can be found by visiting the agency’s website or by calling 431-0653.
