The number of new cases of COVID-19 at both the Danville Correctional Center and in Vermilion County are in the upper hundreds.
Officials with the Illinois Department of Corrections say that 193 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed since Sunday at the prison. 46 percent of the inmate population has contracted the virus, with a total of 728 cases. Currently, there are 610 active cases among inmates and 50 among staffmembers.
Meanwhile, the Vermilion County Health Department reported 176 new cases on Wednesday evening, according to administrator Doug Toole. The new cases, broken down by age, consist of:
- Two people in their 90’s
- Six people in their 80’s
- Seven people in their 70’s
- 29 people in their 60’s
- 23 people in their 50’s
- 26 people in their 40’s
- 28 people in their 30’s
- 23 people in their 20’s
- 14 teenagers
- 10 grade-school-aged children
- Six preschoolers
- Two toddlers
Currently, Vermilion County has 714 active cases, with 39 people hospitalized with the virus.
State health officials announced 7,374 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday along with 178 more deaths. Illinois’ totals are now 955,380 cases and 16,357 deaths. The statewide rolling positivity rate is 7.6 percent, while Vermilion County’s is down to 11.2 percent.
