A Vermilion County man in his 80’s is the latest resident to die from COVID-19.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says the county is now up to 79 deaths from the virus. 35 of those deaths have occurred in the past month.
Toole did say that the health department has received its second shipment of 200 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The first shipment of 500 doses was received last Wednesday, as well as 500 doses to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center and 400 doses to Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.
In addition, 35 new cases were reported locally on Monday evening. Currently, Vermilion County has 795 active cases and 41 people hospitalized with the virus. Overall, there have been 5,994 cases since the pandemic began. The new cases, broken down by age, consist of:
- Three people in their 80’s
- Five people in their 70’s
- Six people in their 60’s
- Three people in their 50’s
- Three people in their 40’s
- One person in his 30’s
- Nine people in their 20’s
- Three teenagers
- One preschooler
- One toddler
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 5,059 new cases and 79 deaths on Monday. The state currently has a rolling positivity rate of 8.6 percent.
