Saying that having President Donald Trump in office for another 14 days would cause too much damage to the country, Governor J.B. Pritzker last night called on Congress to impeach and remove Trump immediately.
The governor says he asked the Illinois State Police to be stationed at the state capitol building and other government buildings in Illinois yesterday after watching what took place in Washington, D.C.
Pritzker said in a statement last night that Trump encouraged a “coup” and says it represents high treason against the American democracy, the Constitution and all Americans. He says that Trump poses a danger to the nation and must be impeached and removed from office immediately.
The governor also said that every person who was involved in organizing and permitting the riot to take place should bear some type of responsibility.
Pritzker has long been at odds with the President, saying in the early days of his campaign in 2017 that Trump was a racist and a misogynist. He has been critical over Trump’s immigration policies and especially over the federal government’s lack of action on COVID-19 and aid to state governments.
