The City of Danville is negotiating with the owner of a storage lot on the north side of West Williams Street, just west of Gilbert, and other than that it has acquired all properties necessary for the road to be realigned.
City Engineer Sam Cole tells VermilionCountyFirst.com that he is currently in talks with Kirchner Building Center about relocating its storage lot on the north side of Williams. The business’s main buildings are located on the south side of Williams, and will be unaffected by the project.
Aldermen who serve on the Public Works Committee are set to approve the purchase of properties at 509 and 519 W. Williams St. and 502 Robinson Street at their meeting on Tuesday night. They will also vote on an additional $57,000 in engineering fees for Clark-Dietz and Associates.
Cole says he was “ambitious” when he first announced the project that it would be completed by this year, but now he says it should be started in 2022.
The project will realign West Williams between Chandler and Robinson streets in order to make it a continuous street. The $2.5 million project will see Williams have an s-curve at the intersection with Harmon Street.
Besides being a continuous street, Cole also says it would be the quickest route to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center from the south, since part of Logan Avenue will be removed due to the Carle medical campus project.
