Danville AMBUCS hosted a drive-thru New Year’s party Saturday by distributing backpacks to adults with disabilities. AMBUCS treasurer Richard Woodard says normally the club hosts a dance and passes out items there. But the 2020 year end dance was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Woodard explained what was in the backpacks that were passed out (under a canopy) at the First Assembly of God Church in Danville…
{‘’This year we’ve got a non-gender scarf, hat, gloves, candy, some personal hygiene things and a bunch of other variety of things that we usually provide them.”}

Woodard added that hopefully other AMBUCS activities will be able to be held this year….
{“I think our next normal thing would be the Challenger League Baseball. We’re hoping we’re going to be able to do that this year. The kids really, really miss that. They miss that event – it was very popular for them,’’ said Woodard. “That’s in June, and then after that – summer camp – and then we go back into the parties and stuff near the end of the year.”}

Danville AMBUCS distributed more than 275 backpacks to children and adults with disabilities free of charge. A distribution for the children was held earlier. Woodard says the AMBUCS purchase some of the items but get great support from a number of local businesses for the program.
Although members of the club are looking forward to other activities this year, Woodard says the AMBUCS have decided there will not be a Home and Business Expo this year. He says the AMBUCS have decided they are no longer physically able to host the show.
