Danville police say a 35-year-old man has died in the first shooting to occur in the city this year.
Sgt. Eric Olson says officers and emergency personnel responded to the 400-block of Avenue A in Vermilion Heights at 9:16 p.m. on Monday night.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Jose Pacheco laying in the yard outside with a gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
