Thanks to generous donors in the Danville area, the local United Way is more than halfway toward reaching its annual fundraising goal, and the organization will soon be hosting a unique opportunity for new donors to give their money to local organizations.
Mary Surprenant, the interim president and CEO of the United Way of Danville Area, says the organization has raised more than $300,000 so far since launching its annual campaign in September. This year’s goal is $500,000.
The United Way is hosting a donor incentive drawing that will be held on Thursday, February 11th at 4 p.m. on Facebook Live for new donors or those who wish to increase their giving. Any new or increased donors will be entered into a $5,000 cash drawing, with another $2,500 to be given away to a United Way agency of their choice. All rollover donors will be entered into a separate $5,000 cash drawing with another $2,500 to be given away to a United Way agency of their choice.
Surprenant says the United Way is always looking for new people to step up and give.
“We are never stepping away from an opportunity to make a new friend, making a new community partner, and it all goes to a wonderful, wonderful cause,” she explains.
Each year, the United Way provides funds for several agencies that it partners with. Some of these include Crosspoint Human Services, Rosecrance, CASA of Vermilion County and WorkSource Enterprises.
One addition to the organization that has been impactful over the last few months has been the COVID-19 relief fund. Surprenant says this is a partnership between LOVE Inc. and the Committee for Unmet Needs.
“If someone is in need who has been affected by COVID in some way, they can call in either to the United Way office or to one of those agencies direct,” she says.
The United Way accepts donations throughout the year. They can be sent in through the mail, online at UnitedWayDA.org or through a new donate button on Facebook.
