Danville High School’s head football coach received a long-awaited heart transplant on Thursday, putting him on the road back to the sidelines after spending several months in the hospital.
Athletic Director Mark Bacys says that Marcus Forrest’s family was notified on Wednesday night that he would be receiving the transplant that day, He spent several hours in surgery as doctors removed his old heart and put in a donated one. Doctors finished the surgery around 6 p.m.
Forrest, who has been the school’s head football coach since 2017, had been in the hospital since this summer, suffering from congestive heart failure. He will be taking the upcoming shortened spring season off but aims to be back on the sidelines in the fall.
