Parents will be allowed to attend indoor sporting events in the future at Danville High School
Athletic Director Mark Bacys says that up to 50 spectators will be allowed at basketball, swimming, volleyball and wrestling events, although the actual number will be around 30 people so that support staff and media personnel can attend as well. School board members approved the new policy Wednesday night, although it will not take effect until after the first few home games, as Bacys explains…
“We’ve got to get the game done safely, and feel comfortable with that, and then bring in the big piece of having fans in,” he said.
Once fans are allowed in, Bacys says they will have to sign up in order to attend, and then show up at the clock tower entrance at a designated time in order to be taken to their seat. Each athlete will be allowed two adults to attend home games. Visiting fans will not be allowed entrance. The gym will be cleaned between each game on an individual night.
Bacys says that Danville High School’s Channel One class is broadcasting a live video feed of all home games for free on YouTube. He says he tried to go with the popular NFHS Network, but that was nixed by Superintendent Alicia Geddis as it would cost money to watch.
The first event on the streaming feed was Tuesday night’s girls’ basketball games. Bacys says that 1,400 people viewed the game from around the country. There will not be any sound on the video feed.
