The Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System is adding more veterans to its list of those eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Zach Sage, the new Associate Medical Center Director at the Danville V.A., says that all veterans who are at least 65 years of age can now sign up to receive a coronavirus vaccine from the facility or one of its community centers.
The Danville V.A. was the first health center in Vermilion County to receive the vaccine, and Sage says it has an advantage since its supply is provided through the federal government, not by the state system. He is encouraging every veteran who is currently eligible for a vaccine to receive one.
“It’s a great opportunity for veterans to receive their COVID vaccine,” Sage said. “We want veterans to receive the vaccine if that’s want–or would prefer to get it from us. We want to provide this wonderful service to our veterans in this community.”
Veterans who are enrolled with care through the V.A. can call 217-554-4444 to schedule their appointment. They can also receive a vaccine at centers in Bloomington, Decatur, Peoria and Springfield. A one-time clinic will also be held on Saturday at the Brookens Administrative Center in Urbana.
You can find a list of COVID-19 vaccination resources on the V.A.’s website.
