Danville city council members this evening will consider appointing the attorney for the city of Urbana as Danville’s next corporation counsel.
James Simon will replace Chuck Mockbee IV, who was appointed in December as an associate circuit court judge, hearing cases in Vermilion County. Mockbee had been serving the city for a little more than a year.
Simon will be in charge of the city’s legal department, which also includes two assistants. The department handles ordinance violations, building codes and delinquent bills and also oversees the municipal court.
Also tonight, aldermen will consider approving exterior renovations for Danville Stadium just in time for the baseball park’s 75th anniversary this summer. The city says the exterior siding and paint have deteriorated, and need to be renovated. The cost is $295,000.
Aldermen will also vote on two proposals to vacate alley ways in the 800-block of Oak Street and another north and south of the Days Hotel on Gilbert Street.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel.
