Area residents are continuing to dig out from the winter storm which hit a wide portion of Illinois and Indiana Monday. The National Weather Service in Lincoln says it received reports of 11 inches of snow one mile south of Danville, 9 inches in Danville and 10 inches in Westville.
Other snow reports to the National Weather Service from the storm include:
- 9.5 inches at Homer
- 10 inches at Brockton, Tuscola and Charleston
- 10.2 inches at Effingham
- 9.0 inches at Allerton and Sidell
- 7.6 inches in Decatur
- 5.8 inches in Springfield
- 7.9 inches two miles southwest of Champaign
- 7.5 inches two miles southeast of Urbana
Gusty winds caused blowing and drifting of snow, creating drifts as tall as four to five feet on some rural roads. County road crews resumed plowing along county roads in Vermilion and Champaign counties early Tuesday after operations were suspended Monday night because of blowing snow and poor visibility.
