The next two upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics at the Fischer Theatre will still be happening despite the cold weather conditions and the county not receiving the amount of doses that it requested.
560 Vermilion County residents received either their first dose or their second at the historic Danville cinema a week ago, and around 600 people are also scheduled for this week’s clinic.
The Illinois Department of Public Health recently informed the Vermilion County Health Department that it would not receive any doses of the Moderna vaccine this week, and only a few hundred doses over the next two weeks. Administrator Doug Toole says that will not be a problem for those who are already scheduled to receive their vaccines at the Fischer, only impacting future events.
“We don’t have the vaccine in hand, and we’re not sure we’re going to get it to start having big clinics for a lot of first-dose stuff,” he explained. “We’re hoping it’s soon but we don’t know at this point.”
Toole says if anyone is scheduled to receive their COVID vaccines at the theater either on Thursday or next week, then they should still show up to receive them, and the health department will receive enough second doses for those currently scheduled to receive their first vaccines.
On Tuesday night, Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. and city council members discussed possibly purchasing a freezer so the county can acquire doses of the Pfizer vaccine as well. Alderman Mike Puhr also says members of the Masonic Temple on North Street have offered their building as an additional vaccination site.
