For the second year in a row, the Vermilion County Conservation District has canceled its maple syrup open house and its pancake and sausage dinner due to concerns over COVID-19 restrictions. The event is usually held every year in March.
The conservation district is hosting a guided hike on Sunday, March 7th at 1 p.m. with district educator Susan Biggs Warner. The group will meet at the Gannett Center parking lot at Forest Glen and also tour the Sugar Bush where maple tree sap is boiled down into syrup every year.
Registration for the group hike is now available. It is limited to a maximum of 20 people due to pandemic restrictions, and all visitors will be required to wear face coverings. Registration is available online. There is a $5 fee for the event.
The Vermilion County Conservation District is currently developing alternative options for maple syrup sales this spring. More details will be available next month.
