The Danville Veterans Administration facility is now offering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to all veterans, regardless of their age.
Melissa Spady, the public affairs officer at the V.A., says that the facility began receiving vaccine shipments in mid-December and has now administered more than 5,000 doses to staff members and veterans. The facility is different from the Vermilion County Health Department and hospitals in that it receives its shipments directly from the federal government. She says that staff members have been contacting and offering the vaccine to the highest-risk population, but is now opening up vaccine clinics to all veterans who would like to call and schedule an appointment.
Veterans who are enrolled at the facility can call 217-554-4444 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to speak to a call center representative. Upcoming clinics are scheduled at sites in Bloomington, Danville, Decatur, Mattoon, Peoria and Springfield.
All appointments must be scheduled, and no walk-ins are available. Veterans can also find out more information by visiting a page on the V.A.’s website.
