Students at Danville Area Community College will see a slight increase in tuition later this year.
The college’s board of trustees approved a $5-per-hour tuition fee increase during its meeting on Thursday night, allowing the college to continue to operate in the black for the upcoming years. Tuition will increase from $140 per credit hour to $145 per credit hour for students living in the college’s district.
College President Dr. Stephen Nacco tells VermilionCountyFirst.com that the trustees recently reviewed the issue during a study session. He says that DACC would have a deficit of $400,000 if it maintained the current tuition rate, and a $10-per-credit-hour increase would have been too onerous, so the board settled on the $5 increase.
Nacco says that the technology and activity fee is staying the same at $25 per credit hour.
Out-of-district students will see tuition increase to $260 per credit hour. Students living in Benton, Fountain, Montgomery, Parke, Vermillion and Warren counties in Indiana will have to pay $217.50 a credit hour starting in the summer.
