Vermilion County residents will now be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in the month of March at the Fischer Theatre in downtown Danville.
Doug Toole, the administrator for the Vermilion County Health Department, says enough vaccines have been delivered to the department that employees are planning to schedule more appointments during March.
Last week, officials said they were uncertain if clinics would be able to happen next month due to a shortage in the number of Moderna vaccines being delivered by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Toole says that 400 people received vaccines at the theater on Thursday, and he says up to 600 people will be able to be vaccinated at each of the four clinics in March.
Earlier this week, Danville District 118 Superintendent Dr. Alicia Geddis said that district employees would be receiving their second doses this month, and Danville Area Community College President Dr. Stephen Nacco says all full- and part-time faculty and staff have been vaccinated at least once. He says it is an important step for students to return to in-person classes.
“We have to get our students back on campus,” he says. “We’ve had our (high school) College Express students here–all of them–but we have to get them all back.”
The state’s drive-through COVID-19 testing unit will be at the health department’s parking lot on March 2nd, 17th and 31st. No appointment is necessary, and it is open to anyone, regardless of symptoms.
