The National Weather Service has posted Flood Warnings along the Wabash River in West-Central Indiana. It involves areas along the Wabash in Tippecanoe, Warren, Fountain, Parke and Vermillion Counties.
At Covington the Wabash River was at 15.5 feet shortly before 10 o’clock Sunday morning (February 28th). The flood stage at Covington is 16.0 feet and the river is expected to crest at 18.1 feet Tuesday morning. At 18.0 feet, Five Crossings – a local county river park at the old U.S. Highway 136 bridge site begins to flood. The river is expected to fall below flood stage at Covington on Thursday evening.
Lowland flooding is expected along the Wabash River in some areas until Thursday. Motorists are reminded they should never attempt to drive around barricades or through flooded areas. You and your vehicle could be swept away by the flood waters. Also, the National Weather Service is urging citizens to use caution when walking near riverbanks.
