A Rantoul man is facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Federal prosecutors filed charges on Tuesday against 37-year-old Alan Dodd, accusing him of events that took place over the past few months.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from four separate social media services last fall that Dodd had shared images of child pornography using instant messaging platforms. Investigators later tracked the online activity back to Dodd’s home.
In the indictment, Dodd is alleged to have distributed the images on October 25th and also possessed it at the time of his arrest by authorities on February 11th.
If he is convicted, Dodd would face between five and 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography and up to 10 years in prison for possessing it.
